ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY:
FSEMS endeavors to have every child in our school become environmentally literate as is the charge from the Maryland State Department of Education. We have ensured that every grade level from our Pre-Kindergarten class to our Eighth Grade class has engaged in environmental instruction. Our scholars are learning everything from how to plant their own flowers to carbon cycles. The importance of experimentation, reading, writing, mathematics and being able to analyze data are all critical to the process. The lessons are to be engaging as well as informative so that the information is absorbed in a manner that will help affect change in our school environment as well as the greater Southwest Baltimore City community.
"As an environmental school we believe each day lends us another opportunity to teach our scholars about sustainability. We try to make each lesson fun whether its us keeping an eye on ways to keep our school on the inside or the outside green and exciting. " - Principal, Terry F. Patton
